On June 25, 1961, the Bill Evans Trio consisted of Evans, Scott LaFaro on bass, and Paul Motian on drums, recorded their peformance at the celebrated Village Vanguard jazz club in New York. This formation is considered the best of the pianist’s trios, and one of the best trios in jazz history. * Waltz for Debby*, which was given a four-star rating in Down Beat, with Leonard Feather stating that, “The tender, gentle side of Evans, representing what is probably the most essential aspect of his fresh and endearing style, is predominantly represented here.
