ECM Records GIYA KANCHELI: CHIAROSCURO CD

The Georgian composer’s twelfth ECM New Series album presents the first recordings of two major works: Chiaroscuro for violin and chamber orchestra, and Twilight for two violins and chamber orchestra. In Twilight, Gidon Kremer and Patricia Kopatchinskaja offer a moving meditation on mortality, change and transformation. Chiaroscuro draws on the dramatic contrast between light and shadow, reflected in Kancheli’s stark dynamics and the powerful playing of Kremerata Baltica. Produced by Manfred Eicher.
