ECM Records BILL FRISELL, THOMAS MORGAN: EPISTROPHY CD

Like their acclaimed 2017 ECM release Small Town, Epistrophy was recorded at New York’s Village Vanguard and captures the rare musical empathy between guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Thomas Morgan. The duo offers poetic interpretations of Americana songs, Billy Strayhorn’s “Lush Life”, Paul Motian’s “Mumbo Jumbo” and John Barry’s “You Only Live Twice”. At the album’s centre are two Thelonious Monk compositions: the angular title track and the reflective ballad “Pannonica”.
